Almost 22.5k new Irish companies formed in 2018 - a new record.
2018 was a record breaking year for start-ups in Ireland with 22,493 new companies being formed, up slightly from the previous record (22,380) in 2017.
One in five new companies operate in the professional services sector, with the second and third most popular industries being finance (15%) and social & personal services (12%). Construction and wholesale & retail complete the top 5 most popular industries with 2,356 and 1,970 company start-ups respectively.
Dublin remains the most popular area for start-ups with almost 46% of new companies having a registered address in the county. Cork is the next most popular area with one in ten start-ups formed there.
Galway, Limerick and Kildare are the next most popular counties and account for approximately 4% of companies apiece.
